WCVB 5 ABC is reporting that a group made up of Cambridge, Massachusetts, business owners known as “Cambridge Streets For All” is suing the city to stop them from removing parking spaces in favor of bike lanes. The business owners claim the reduction of public parking is impacting their businesses already weakened by the COVID pandemic.
Watching the news report footage, it is easy to understand why cyclists want separated bike lanes on these busy thoroughfares. Even where separated bike lanes are shown, the cyclists are forced to navigate intersections (where the majority of bike/automobile collisions occur) shared with automotive traffic.
This is an interesting story that I plan to follow up on as the lawsuit progresses.
