You Gotta Hear This: The Flat Duo Jets

What first drew me towards The Flat Duo Jets was the way they would take a classic song and somehow retain its DNA and soul while blowing the livin’ jams out of it. No better example is when they covered ‘You Belong To Me.” Now, I don’t know if it was Jo Safford’s 1952 version or the Duprees’ 1962 version (hits for both artists) that first inspired Dex Romweber (The Flat Duo Jets’s lead singer and only guitarist). Regardless of the version Dex leaned towards, the Flat Duo Jets’ version (that did not become a hit), showed up on their 1991 album Go Go Harlem Baby and you gotta hear it.

I’ve included links to both Jo Safford’s and the Duprees’ versions. Listen to them first. Then, turn up the volume and play The Flat Duo Jets.
