Rare Icelandic Recording Added To Album Cover Museum

The Jimmy Mac Motorcycle Album Cover Museum recently acquired Sniglabandið’s ultra-rare, 1986 EP (extended play) “Fjöllin falla í hauga…” for its collection. The distinctive black-and-white cover featuring a vintage person wearing a star-patterned motorcycle helmet with a vintage motorcycle parked in the background is what first caught the attention of the museum’s curator who began working tirelessly to secure the acquisition.

A surviving copy was recently uncovered in Iceland, the band’s home country. Serious negotiations lead to an agreed-upon price plus shipping costs and custom fees. The item was carefully transported by federal agencies operating in both Iceland and The United Sates of America and arrived safely to The Jimmy Mac Motorcycle Album Cover Museum in Somis, California.

The band’s name translates to “The Snail Band,” which is a direct nod to Sniglarnir (The Snails), Iceland’s prominent motorcycle club. Formed during a period when motorcycle culture was expanding in Iceland, the band members were tightly connected to this scene. Sniglarnir members frequently acted as concert security, and the band’s music became the unofficial soundtrack for Icelandic biker meets and rallies.

You can hear “750 cc blús” from the EP by clicking here.

Under Lock & Key: The “Fjöllin falla í hauga…” album, or “The Mountains Fall Into Heaps…”, now resides in an air-tight, temperature-controlled vault in a secret location.
Museum On The Move: The Jimmy Mac Motorcycle Album Cover Museum does display at motorcycle events. Nothing is for sale from the collection that is always growing and has taken over 20 years to create.
