Recall: E-Bikes Sold By Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s stores Present A Fire Hazard

Ascend Cabrillo and Minaret e-bikes sold by Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s stores nationwide and online at basspro.com and cabelas.com from January 2023 through November 2023 for between $1,400 and $1,500, are being recalled due to a fire risk.

The problem stems from the wiring harness that manages the charging of the lithium-ion battery that was not properly assembled, creating a risk of overheating and fire while charging. There are reports of the battery catching on fire and one of those fires resulting in second-degree burns of a victim.

There is not a simple fix for the issue. The recall asks owners to stop charging their bikes and return them for a refund.

You can see the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice by clicking here.

Stop using: The recalled e-bikes were manufactured by Pacific Cycles. Most recalls involve replacing a component. In this case, owners will get a full refund. My advice…upgrade to a bike that is UL 2849 certified.
