A slew of 2023 motorcycle models are being announced and motorcycle websites almost universally refer to 750cc models as “midsized.” I don’t like using the term “gaslighting” (because it has become way, way overused), but it sure fits this situation. Keep telling people a 750cc or 800cc engine is midsized and they will start to believe you. Yes, I’m old school. In my not-so-humble opinion, once a motorcycle goes beyond 500 cubic centimeters, it is not midsized no more!
“Midsized” compared to what?: I guess you could claim this is midsized if you are comparing it to a Ford Rapture pickup truck. If you are comparing it to other motorcycles, it gets picked for the dodgeball team way before other real midsize bikes get called up. And folks, bigger is not always better.
My DR-Z400 minibike: If the Honda Transalp 750 is a midsize bike, then I’ve been riding a minibike. Honestly, misleading people can ruin their riding experience. The motorcycle media needs to take a step back and evaluate why they feel the need to steer riders to larger and larger motorcycles.
