Shade And His Flying Snoopy Chopper Seen In Record Stores Everywhere

Already told ya that I’ve got something of an addiction to motorcycle album covers. It is a never-ending search down deeper and deeper rabbits holes. But it feels so good to score a long-sought-after album or one you didn’t know existed. And that’s where this story begins.

If you are thinking of compiling your own motorcycle album collection, there is not a better place to start than looking for Shade (my name for him) and his Flying Snoopy Harley-Davidson chopper. That’s because Shade appears on numerous album covers and most can be found in a record store’s dollar bin.

Shade and the Flying Snoopy grace the yellow “Leader of the Pack” album from Brookville Records. Then you can find him again on a blue “Leader of the Pack” album from Laurie House. Finally, the duo are on a box set from Record Marketing Corp. But Shade and Snoopy have popped up again.

Their most recent appearance comes on The Iron Horse, an album of pretty good instrumental Hip Hop, Funk and Trip Hop by The Sound Defects. Flying Snoopy’s name has been replaced by “The Iron Horse” but you’re not foolin’ me. I know it is the same rider and bike.

I’m optimistic that this will not be Shade’s last appearance on an album. The guy knows how to sell records.

Oldies But Goodies: The first album I picked up with Shade on the cover was a double album of oldies. Other versions have three albums worth of oldies so this one may have been missing an LP. Think I got it for $5.99.
Rare find: Been told that the blue version is rare. I got this one from my buddy Norman of Motorcycho fame. You can get your butt kicked for naming your chopper “Flying Snoopy.” Shade must be a tough dude.
In Living Color: We finally get to see Shade and Snoopy in full color on the cover of the box set from the Record Marketing Corp. Some guys just know how to dress.
Black To Black: The Sound Defects went back to Shade in all black and both hands are on the handlebar. The Snoopy name is gone in favor of the album’s title.
