Update: Gold Country Classic Postponed Due To High Fire Danger

August 29, 2024: Sorry to hear that the first-ever Gold Country Classic has been pushed back a year due to extreme fire danger in the Calaveras County area. A message on the event’s website reads, “EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL 2025! Due to severe fire danger in the beautiful foothills surrounding and including the race course, the event will be postponed until 2025.”

The Original Posting from April 2024: Yeah, yeah, I know. Planning to attend a bike expo almost 6 months in advance is kinda crazy. But the Gold Country Classic has a number of things going for it that requires you to get the calendar out right now and at least pencil in the dates.

The event is going to take place at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds just outside Angels Camp. Angels Camp is part of California’s Gold Country and the spectacular downtown is worth the visit. The event falls after the summer heat (hopefully). The venue’s vibe is perfect for camping out (and close enough to stay in town) and mountain bike, e-bike and cyclocross racing will fit right in. Sorry roadies. Finally, the event is being organized by two guys who have deep roots in the bicycle world, Todd Huffman and Steve Boehmke. Their involvement assures that you can expect plenty of participation from bicycle companies, cycling accessory companies and cycling celebrities.

So put it down on your calendar and check the event’s website (click here) for more news as we move closer to the event.

History today: Fortunately, Angels Camp’s downtown has been preserved from its California Gold Rush days. Take in the bike event and discover the town at the same time. The place is around 3 hours from the Bay Area and 5.5 hours from Los Angeles.
