I never expected this list of e-bike companies to exceed 100 brands yet here we are reaching 201 brands and I’m not even counting the big guys!
You should already know that every major bicycle company (like Specialized, Trek, Giant and Cannondale) offers e-bikes. There is also an ever-increasing number of motorcycle and automobile companies jumping into the e-bike game. I haven’t counted them either (but I probably should). The e-bikes being pitched on crowdfunding sites are not counted because they won’t exist until (or if) they eventually ship. To give you an idea of this volume, I recently counted over 60 e-bike concepts on Indiegogo alone.
My ever-expanding list is made up of e-bike companies that sell anywhere from a few hundred units to those who sell thousands. Prices range from under a grand to thousands of dollars. The majority have no retail locations and sell directly to you (with instructions on how to assemble the bike). My directory has never stopped expanding. Please welcome Elby and MorFuns pushing my list to 202 e-bike brands that you have probably never heard of.
The quality and model selection is mind numbing. Many companies offer strikingly similar models (with different graphics and slightly tweaked component mixes) that I assume come out of one or two factories in China. Then, there are e-bikes so unique (and unproven) in design that you can speculate the company was launched based on a cocktail-napkin doodle. I pray to God these companies have a quality control department (or there may be a hot time in your garage tonight).
After reaching the 202-brand mark, all I can think of is, “Dang, I wish I accepted advertising on Jimmy Mac On Two Wheels.” But, it appears Facebook and Google beat me to the punch.
The List So Far (November 4, 2022)
Please forgive me if a link is no longer active. A company can disappear just as fast as new brands are launched. So far, the drop-out rate is less than five.
