Gitche Gumee Gran Fondo Honors Steve Tilford’s Legacy

The Gitche Gumee Gran Fondo starts in Cable, Wisconsin (this year it was on August 26th) and treats riders to scenic back-country roads and even crosses the Continental Divide. This year’s event teamed up with The Steve Tilford Memorial Fund, as the event’s official charity, with a portion of the proceeds going to support the fund’s partnership with USA Cycling’s mission to foster a commitment to the safety, integrity, and joy of cycling. This fund honors Steve’s passion for cycling and continues his legacy.

If you couldn’t make it this year, block out your calendar for last August of 2020.

The Fondo is more than riding. It is an excuse for many of Steve Tilford’s friends to get together in a place he loved. From left to right is Mike Yenrick, John Moschetto, Andy Caron, Matt Caron, Jay Luchen, Paul Biskup, Pete Caron, Sean Murphy, Dennis Kruse, and Trevor Haughton (group historian and Master Storyteller).
Steve Tilford still attracts a diverse group of friends and family including (from left to right), Theresa Munkvold, Michael Fatka, Jenny Huelsman and Tommy Matush (the fondo creators, hosts, and cool couple), Trudi Rebsamen (Steve’s widow) and Trudi’s nephew, Parker Ohlmann.
If you have never been to Cable, you don’t know what you are missing. The town, trails and roads were made for cyclists. And Tilly’s Pies was opened for after those rides.
