Clean Republic’s Hill Topper E-bike Kits Recalled Due To Unintended Acceleration

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a product recall for Clean Republic’s Hill Topper E-bike Controllers due to reports of unintended motor acceleration after water had penetrated the controllers. Clean Republic, based in Seattle, has received six reports of riders losing control when the motor accelerated without rider input, including one reported injury resulting in scrapes and bruises to the rider.

Riders (and there are around 3,500 of you) should immediately stop using the recalled motor controller circuit boards and kits and contact the Clean Republic for a free replacement motor controller circuit board. Clean Republic’s toll-free number is (855) 743-3279 and can be reached Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT. You can also email them at [email protected]. The CPSC says you can go to the company’s website and click on “Recall Information,” but as of Saturday, August 4th, we couldn’t find an active recall link on the website. We did find this Service Bulletin that identifies the problem, but falls short of recall info.
