1979 Honda XR500 Sells For $25,300 At Mecum Auction

I’m not attending the Las Vegas Mecum Motorcycle Auction this year. Instead, I’m following the live feed (with the sound turned off and playing the Vicious Cycles as my soundtrack). I am missing walking the aisles of beautiful motorcycles and seeing friends. Hopefully I’ll be back next year. Check out this Honda that blew off the stage on Wednesday for a whopping $25,300! The bike is pristine and the seller is claiming they only made this model of two years. But $25,000?! Mecum must have found two people with really…

Vintage Norton Saved From A Mercedes-Benz Bonfire

Jeff Koskie and I worked at Suzuki in the old Santa Fe Springs pagoda building way back in…well, a long time ago. Jeff has remained passionate about motorcycles all these years and is a member in good standing of the Central Coast Classic Motorcycle Club. Our paths cross at different motorcycle events and it is always a pleasure. I saw Jeff at the Schoenewald Motorcycle Collection open house and he told me about the hot time he had recently. Jeff explained that he smelled something funny while driving up the…

The Schoenewald Motorcycle Collection Opens Its Doors For The Day

Got the chance to see the Schoenewald Motorcycle Collection a few years ago, but there was a catch. Structural repairs needed following a fire on the floor below the collection (no motorcycle was lost in the flames) necessitated the bikes to be stuffed into a fraction of their normal display area. I got to see all the bikes but they were so crammed in, it was hard to fully appreciate the collection. I saw gold, I just couldn’t get it to. That changed today when the Schoenewald Motorcycle Collection was…

Park & Diamond Helmets Start The New Year Headed Backwards With No Helmet On The Horizon

I really feel for the poor backers who bought the hype from Park & Diamond’s founders as well as from media outlets like TC Disrupt and Digital Trends way back in 2019. They paid for the promised helmet and all they have received is one lame excuse after another from a company that doesn’t even have a helmet yet. You can read the latest update here. The update says, “We have successfully changed our manufacturing vendor and other key vendors. We have re-ordered tooling and are currently fine-tuning the tooling process…

Kawasaki Running When Parked Four Pack

Here is something you don’t see everyday. Four Running When Parked motorcycles offered from the same collection. And the ad was just updated explaining one of the four is now running. I don’t know how long ago the ad was first posted so you’ll just have to guess how many hours went into getting the bike fired up. In my humble opinion that $1900 asking price (each) for a non-runner is crazy. The guy is asking for the value of an “Excellent Condition” example. The ballpark for a RWP’ed Kawasaki…

Totem USA’s Zen Rider E-Bike Powered By Panasonic Earns UL 2849 Approval

Totem USA is introducing a new 2022 e-bike model dubbed the Zen Rider. The Panasonic-powered Zen Rider separates itself from its competition by applying for and passing the Underwriters Laboratory UL 2849 certification. This is a major commitment from Totem to their customers who want the assurance that the e-bikes in their home do not pose an extreme fire threat or have an inherent design issue that could make operation dangerous. Buying an e-bike is a confusing and complicated dilemma due to the sheer number of available options (my last…

Sad Update On Missing Motorcyclist John Mario Fuegos

I reported last year of a Central Coast motorcyclist who never returned from a ride. Information from the police said John was last heard from in the Fillmore area. I posted a plea for people (especially motorcyclists and mountain bikers) to be on the lookout for John. John’s widow contacted me recently, thanking me for the coverage and my efforts to solve the mystery. She explained that John’s body and motorcycle were found almost three months later off the Highway 101 near the Gaviota tunnel. He was found by chance…

Top Stories Of 2021 From Jimmy Mac On Two Wheels

Calculating the top (most-clicked-on) stories of 2021 is fraught with technical difficulties. Stories posted early in the year have a marked advantage over a story posted in December. Stories that are “Updates” include tag-along readers from the original story (so I haven’t counted them unless the original story appeared in 2021). Finally, web browsers are getting mighty stingy revealing clicks (and I’m fine with that because I don’t monetize or track my readers) so I could have a story with way more eyeballs on it than I’ll ever know. Even…
