Harley-Davidson’s New Sportster Looks Anything But ‘Sporty” – UPDATED

August 22, 2021: I added a video at the bottom of my story proving I’m not the only one to draw the Sportster/V-Rod connection. July 22, 2021: I was enthusiastic about Harley-Davidson’s new Pan America model (although my buying advice is to hold off until the bugs are worked out). Can’t say I feel the same optimism about the recently-announce all-new Sportster model. Photos of the bike in action (like in the Cycle News review) show the rider in a very un-sporty, upright position. I mean, how many times can you read…

Luca and Alberto Would Love This RWP’ed Vespa

Have you seen the movie Luca? You should if only to marvel at the mind-bending animation. The two main characters, Luca and Alberto, plot a way to afford the motorcycle of their dreams, a Vespa scooter. Well, this RWP’ed is way better than the Vespa the boys tried to build on their own from scratch. Is it worth the $500? I have no idea. The price is attractive for the mechanic who knows how to massage a Vespa. Sure, it has a sizable ding up front and a missing Vespa…

$25,000 Minibike Will Blow Your Mind And My Budget

I don’t know why it should, but it really bugs me that there are riders out there who can drop $25,000 on a minibike! A toy. A product with no practical purpose but having a good time. And it is not just one or two riders. There are enough of these riders to keep Droog Moto in business.  I guess if $25,000 was like $2,500 to me, I’d buy one. But the last time I spent $25,000 on something it was to replace our sceptic tank and it didn’t feel…

Running When Parked ’84 Yamaha XT Fetches $1,550 At Auction

The days of snatching up a motorcycle at auction for dimes on a dollar are over. Proof in point, this very nice Yamaha. While the winning bid of $1,550 isn’t too far out of the ballpark, it is still a home run for the seller. Why? The description doesn’t give you a lot to go on. It is listed as a “project/parts bike.” That’s not super encouraging. Even with a two-inch hole through the piston, the “engine turns.” And “will need fuel system cleaned” is code for cracked fuel lines,…

E-Bikes Add Speed To San Luis Obispo’s Emergency Response Squad

This is cool news out of the San Luis Obispo Fire Department. In an effort to improve rescue response times, the SLO fire department has added a secret weapon. E-bikes! “It is amazing how much faster our paramedics can reach patients on our city’s trails,” said Fire Engineer and Paramedic Ryan Mason, who led the department’s new e-bike program development. “What used to take 45 minutes to an hour to reach an injured hiker or mountain biker can now take us less than 10 minutes.” The City’s fire department partnered…

Cat 3-4 Racer Dies While Riding His Dream Race

Valley News is reporting that Evan Barr-Beare, a 33-year-old Rhode Island scientist, suffered a possible medical issue while leading his class at the 40th annual Concord Criterium bicycle race. Evan veered off course, crashed and did not respond to emergency medical assistance. The article explains that Evan was having a race most cyclists dream of, launching a solo attack that put him almost a minute ahead of the chasing pack. Our sympathies go out to Evan’s family and friends. Godspeed, Evan.

Serial 1 Custom-fabricated E-Bike Fetches $14,200 At Auction

Serial 1, the e-bike division of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, may have come up with a profitable new business model for selling e-bikes if they can repeat what happened today. Start with a stock model, hand it off to a creative customizer and then auction it off. That’s exactly what Serial 1 did with their Mosh/CTY model. The Mosh/CTY normally sells for $3799 but after it was transformed into a Schwinn Stingray-ish custom, it raked in $14,200.  The winning bid seems kinda crazy for a bike that is easily duplicated. Take $14,200,…

Does Sex Still Sell? Get More Than A ’68 Yamaha From This Ebay Auction – UPDATED

I’ve got a compulsion for scanning Craigslist, Ebay and Bring A Trailer for vintage motorcycles from 1963 to 1972. I may actually buy another one someday (I’ve already got a shed filled with running-when-parked bikes) but it is the chase I enjoy.  On a recent hunt I uncovered a very nice 1968 Yamaha YG5T 80cc classic. The image of an attractive young lady with the bike wasn’t a big surprise although this gimmick is seen used more often for choppers. It was in the product description that I saw something I’ve…

Custom-Built Serial 1 E-Bike On Auction “For Display Purposes Only” – UPDATED

The Serial 1 custom-fabricated, one-of-a-kind Mosh/Chopper is an appealing e-bike that any kid would be stoked to ride to school. Heck, there are a lot of grown kids who would want to cruise on the Mosh/Chopper (including me). There is only one catch. Reading the auction’s small print (it is not really “small,” just hidden at the bottom of the page) reveals that the custom concept is for the eyes only, not for your feet. That’s right, even though the video shows a talented young rider pulling an endless wheelie,…
