Riding The Sur Ron X Bike Electric-Powered Motorcycle

My buddy Mark, owner of Reign motorcycle apparel, has been after me to come out and try one of his Sur Ron electric-powered motorcycles for a year. The stars aligned today and we headed up to the Hungry Valley off-highway vehicular (OHV) recreation area.  The ranger would normally collect the outrageous entry fee of $5 but Mark has a season pass so we were ready to cruise on in after she checked our spark arrestors. That threw her for a loop. You’re not going to find a spark arrester (or…

Running-When-Parked Minibike A Fun Project If Ya Got The Parts

First off, describing this Running When Parked as a “Honda dirt bike” is a stretch. This guy should write ads for time share companies. He is creative, a little misleading, yet technically telling the truth. It is a minibike with a Honda engine, but it is not even a Honda motorcycle engine. It is what most folks would dub a lawn mower engine. The minibike itself is awesome. Too bad it has been neglected for so long.  Minibike guys may take one look at this and see a treasure. I…

Iconic Radio Flyer Company Joins The E-Bike Wars With Bikes For The Grups

What kid doesn’t have the vivid memory of high-balling down the steepest neighborhood hill in a brakeless, top heavy, Radio Flyer Red Wagon? Those were the days (if you lived through them). Well, the same company that made your favorite form of transportation and stuffed-animal hauling (of course, they are still making the wagon) is now in the e-bike business. Their Flyer e-bike line is not for youngsters. They are targeted towards grups (the word used for “grown ups” in the 1966 Star Trek episode titled, Miri, guest staring the…

Human Powered Solutions Offers Tips To Guard Against E-Bike Fire Disasters

After being labeled an alarmist and dismissed as an anti-e-bike zealot (for the record, I love riding quality e-bikes), I feel vindicated. It may have taken them over 3 years to echo my concerns, but a respected bicycle retailer consulting group known as Human Powered Solutions (HPS) recently published “Safe Lithium-Ion Battery Storage and Charging Procedures.” You should substitute “e-bike” for “Lithium-Ion” in their title to make the story more honest and understandable. The article builds on a story I published that remains one of the most-read articles to appear…

Riding Utah’s Backcountry Discovery Route, Part II

Lance Sallis, of Central Texas Restorations, and I rode the top half of Utah’s Backcountry Discovery Route (and then some) last year and before we were done, committed to riding the bottom half as soon as the snow melted in 2021. Our enthusiasm got the better of us and we jumped the gun. The snow falling on our base camp in Park City, Utah, the day before our departure should have been taken as a warning, but we departed Deer Valley ready for a challenge. It turns out the Utah…

Help Find Missing Motorcyclist, John Mario Fuegos – UPDATED

UPDATED June 6: The original story from KEYT News about missing motorcyclists John Mario Fuego has been updated with more information (read it by clicking here). The biggest change is that John was not Suzuki mounted but was riding a black 2003 Yamaha R1 motorcycle with California license plate 22P6615. Fuegos’ motorcycle had sections of the plastic fairing removed around the front end. This information hurts my theory that John may have ridden up Goodenough road in Fillmore. The updated story also explains that John’s phone was tracked to San Ysidro, Highway 192…
