Rokform Mount And Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max A Bad Combo (UPDATE)

Warning. I’ve run into a big problem with the combination of my iPhone 11 Pro Max and the Rokform Rugged Case mounted to my Suzuki DR-Z400 with the Rokform motorcycle bar mount. This combo may render your iPhone camera useless. The first time I used the combo was on a 100-mile dirt-road ride. The roads had the usual washboard sections and rocky sections but not what you’d call harsh-riding conditions. After the ride, the iPhone’s camera was no longer focusing. I took it to the Apple store and because there…

1952 Vincent Smashes RWP’ed Asking Price Record By 35 Thousand Dollars (Updated)

Update January 27, 2020: It is not often that a Running When Parked bike needs an update. It takes important new information or a dramatic turn of events. This ’52 Vincent meets both criteria because it just sold for $55,000 at Mecum’s 29th Annual Vintage & Antique Motorcycle Auction. While that is short of the $69,950 asking price back in June, it is not too far off. I’m stoked for Bator International (who sold the bike) but I’m not sure Running When Parked bikes selling for $55,000 is great for…

Hitting The Jackpot Or Going Bust At Mecum’s 2020 Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction

I learned how little I know about buying collectable vintage motorcycles at Mecum’s 29th Annual Vintage & Antique Motorcycle Auction in Las Vegas. I know what caught my eye. Anybody can do that. What few people can do is look beyond the polished chrome, Armor-All’ed tires and waxed paint to assess a motorcycle’s true value. Eavesdropping on the Pros inspecting the lots (that’s auction speak for the motorcycles) was more fun and way more educational than watching the bidding action going down. Did the winning bidder hit the jackpot or…

Modified E-Bike’s Fiery Explosion A Warning

An E-bike with a modified battery ignited into flames that were quickly contained because of the fire’s close proximity to an extinguisher. Reports were not clear if the bike was privately owned or used by a food-delivery service. The Straits Times reports that the fire took place in Singapore where, unlike in the United States, there are strict laws on e-bike modifications (that obviously didn’t deter this owner from making modifications) and there are a much larger number of E-bikes in operation than in the States. As E-bike use expands…

30-Mile-Per-Hour Scooter Scares The Crap Out Of Me

When I worked for Bell Helmets during the 80’s, one of the Company’s largest concerns was product liability. It wasn’t because Bell was making a sub-par product. Quite the contrary. Bell was rightfully respected as the finest helmet company in the world. The testing lab was amazing and the quality control second to none. There were racers sponsored by other helmet companies who would buy Bell helmets, remove the stickers and replace them with their sponsor’s sticker (I am not making this stuff up and saw it first hand). But…

Must-Attend Motorcycle Events Coming Soon

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series gets the lion’s share of media attention every January and rightfully so. The 17-event series packs stadiums from Anaheim, California, to Detroit, Michigan, and is easily America’s most-watched motorcycle race series. That doesn’t mean you should miss out on two other annual motorcycle events that will take place between now and the first week in February. THE MECUM MOTORCYCLE AUCTION IN VEGAS I call it America’s largest motorcycle dealership showroom that is only open 5 days a year. The auction runs January 21 through…
