MOUNTAIN BIKING REACHES 15 MILLION

It is never a bad thing for mountain biking to get some positive exposure and that happened in a big way with the June issue of Relish magazine. Relish is a food magazine that gets delivered once a month inside select newspapers. It is claimed to reach 15-million readers with each issue. The June issue has a great shot of a father and son riding a mountain bike (dad) and a BMX bike (son) on a dual-track dirt road. Don’t look too close or you’ll see that dad is not…

MOUNTAIN BIKING EQUALS RENOVATION WELLNESS

Great story in VoyageLZ about Renovation Wellness founder Gina Flanagan. You can read the story by clicking here. I got to ride with Gina and her husband, Greg Flanagan, a number of years ago on the Backbone Trail where it runs through the hills above Malibu. Gina had impressive riding skills for sure, but the reason I still remember the ride is because of her positive energy. Every time I’ve seen her since she always has that positive attitude that makes a regular ride into something special. I hope this…

ZIMMERMAN BROTHERS THIN THE HERD

If you have money burning a hole in your wallet and are looking for early 70’s motocross and desert bikes or mid-60’s Triumph motorcycles, you need to head to Las Vegas on June 1, 2017, to bid on some of the Zimmerman Brothers motorcycle collection. The brothers appear to be thinning out their herd (they have over 300 bikes in the collection) at the Mecum Auction in Vegas. While the offering is an impressive mix of bikes, the Brothers are not offering any of their super-collectable items (championship bikes, a…

AN E-BIKE LOVE STORY

The Guangzhou Orientway Electric Motorbike Industry Company offers a large line of electric motorized vehicles including bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, cargo bikes and even tricycles. But they don’t sell them under the Guangzhou Orientway name. They will make them for you if you will commit to a certain number of units. Just add your own graphics, dream up a catchy brand name and slap on a head-tube badge. It is that easy. You could be a bike company! While Guangzhou Orientway is not the only manufacturer to offer this opportunity to…

CANNONDALE MOTERRA, $5500 OF UGLY

The industrial designers at Cannondale must have been on vacation when the Moterra was created. This bike represents everything wrong with e-bike design. The bloated downtube and engine cradle mated to the aluminum top tube, rear triangle and seat tube give the distinct impression of a Segway welded to bicycle. The Moterra appears to be the result of a production line collision between two different models (“Hey Charlie, I think the Bad Habit parts got delivered to the Moterra assembly line by mistake.”).  And let’s be honest, the under-powered 250-watt…

Businessman: Taking a trip? Jim Bronson: What’s that? Businessman: Taking a trip? Jim Bronson: Yeah. Businessman: Where to? Jim Bronson: Oh, I don’t know. Wherever I end up, I guess. Businessman: Man, I wish I was you. Jim Bronson: Really? Businessman: Yeah. Jim Bronson: Well, hang in there. Michael Parks, who played Jim Bronson in the TV show “Then Came Bronson,” dead at the age of 77. Rest in peace.

The new issue of Motorcycho just hit the newsstands (if there are any newsstands left standing) and cool motorcycle shops.
